Research Program: Community Needs Assessment & Data-Driven Insights

Objective:
To systematically gather and analyze data on the needs, challenges, and aspirations of urban refugees in Nairobi, informing all YVC advocacy and programmatic work.

Key Activities:

  • Small-Scale Community-Based Research:
YVC conducts regular listening sessions, focus groups, and surveys within refugee communities to identify pressing issues such as access to documentation, education, and economic opportunities. These participatory methods ensure that research is rooted in the lived experiences of refugees and that their voices directly shape priorities5.

Youth-Led Data Collection:

Refugee youth are trained in data literacy, research methods, and ethical data collection. They lead the process of gathering qualitative and quantitative data, empowering them to critically analyze community issues and propose evidence-based solutions

Data Analysis and Reporting:
Findings are synthesized into accessible reports and briefs that highlight key barriers and opportunities. These are shared with stakeholders, including policymakers, service providers, and the refugee community itself, to drive collective action.

Continuous Feedback Loops:
Community feedback events are held to validate research findings and refine recommendations, ensuring ongoing relevance and accountability.
